Welcome to day 11! Thank you for sharing your best gifts ever. We are reminded that a little effort put into gift giving can really mean so much to the recipient. Oh, and we're going easy on you today as a reward for putting so much thought and effort into the last few challenges.

The story of the magical charm bracelet Bree received from her grandmother did it for us. She's earned herself a sweet little necklace from Laurel Denise. We will be in touch Bree !

Day Eleven Challenge

We don't know about you but, by this point in the season, we could really use a drink. What cocktail (or beverage if you're not the drinkin' type) signifies the holidays for you?

Super inofmraitve writing; keep it up.

Gosh, this year has made this question a bit trickier for me… I made eggnog from scratch as Christmas presents this year, and the little bit leftover made it into my morning latte – quite yummy! But then… I’m in Munich for Christmas with my family, and the gluhwein and especially the feuerzangenbowle (with sugar doused with booze and served to you on fire!) are so wonderfully available in Christmas markets all over the city that they’re ridiculously hard to resist, especially in the snow.
    Can I pick all three??

Hot chocolate with amaretto and tiny marshmallows. Even better if I’ve been out in the snow.

Every Christmas morning while opening pressants, I get a half eggnog, and a half orange juice mixed together. Yes it sounds gross, but it is sooo amazing! And just recently I have been enjoying eggnog and rum together since I just turned 19 in the summer :)

Hot Apple Cider with Hot Butter Rum made with Victorian Epicure, but I don’t work for them.

Tall non-fat chai eggnog latte. Only at Starbucks could we enjoy saying 6 words (or more!) to order one drink!!

Funny enough, I’m usually at work in the emergency department for Christmas or New Year’s eve and our drink of choice is always sparkling apple juice! When I see that now, it reminds me of my colleagues and our toasts…

Homemade mulled spice apple cider – most delicious on a cold winter day. In 2nd place would be a nice cup of egg nog with some drops of rum or brandy! mm….

This is the only time of year I drink Baileys. Yum!

  • Posted by Eve on December 22, 2011 :

Anything that is warm or spicy that you can hold to keep your hands toasty outside…like hot chocolate, egg nog, warm apple cider, gingerbread lattes, pumpkin spiced lattes..yuuummmm.

Dec 1st I buy a bottle of Bailey’s Caramel for my morning coffee and/or evening hot chocolate, B52s with friends :) …hoping it will last thru to the New Year. We’re on our 2nd bottle already!

lol-my Starbucks order for the season has had responses from baristas such as “I don’t do math”. Here it is: Grande 1/3 eggnog, non-fat steamed milk, with one pump of chai and one pump of gingerbread. Has to be a grande or the ratios are all off! DELISHHHH!

Baileys in my coffee on Christmas morning.

That’s easy! Hot chocolate with Baileys and Kahlua, covered in marshmallows!

  • Posted by shoni on December 22, 2011 :

a number of different drinks mark the season. The first of Dec. we get our first bottle of Avalon eggnog (with a little rum and nutmeg), our Christmas party has always featured mulled wine, Christmas morning is fortified by mimosas…and this year a new drink was added to the mix as my husband has taken to making homemade single malt eggnog…peaty but great.

Our best friends always have a Norwegian dinner on Christmas Eve. Aquavit shots are served with dinner along with toasts of “skoal”. Not my very favourite thing to drink but it sure does mean Christmas to me!

Well my memory from when I was little was the smell of coffee from the kitchen. The rule was we could open our stockings but we couldn’t open or presents until mom and dad had a large cup of coffee in their hands. Now it’s for sure champagne and orange juice since now we get to sleep in a little longer than we used to hahahaha.

While I normally enjoy wine and beer, Christmastime is the only time of the year that I indulge in Coke with spiced rum (with a twist of lime – of course!).

When at home in Winnipeg, a deadly vokda slush drink at my aunt Margaret’s house on Christmas afternoon morning is the ultimate drink of choice. You make a big mixture of vodka, nectarine syrup, limonade and orange concentrate (and other secret ingredients), and freeze it in advance. Then when company comes over, you fill a tumbler with the slush and top it up with 7-Up, or ginger
ale (or more vodka or rum if you like). It’s unbelievable!

Mmmmmm…. Hot drinks on a cold day. What could be better? This is where the shift worker in me has some say…
Going out (caffeinated): Caramel brulee latte. Going out (non-caffeinated): Caramel apple cider, topped up with hot water. Staying in (alcoholic): Eggnog with rum or scotch, neat. Staying in (non-alcoholic): Coffee with eggnog! Sheesh…. carried away, much? ;)

Egg Nog Lattes from Starbucks! I have had FAR TOO MANY of them this season!

  • Posted by Cleo on December 22, 2011 :

Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Juice! Although that’s also associated with my wedding now. But the holidays is the only time when you can buy it in bulk at Costco.

  • Posted by Leslie on December 22, 2011 :

Nothing says the holidays like champagne and orange juice on Christmas morning.

  • Posted by Michaella on December 22, 2011 :

I love a good cocktail, but truthfully a gingerbread latte. Gotta find a way to combine the two.

  • Posted by Leah on December 22, 2011 :

Well, seeing as I already gave my rum/eggnog drink recipe here, my other favourite is a caramel apple martini. Yum!

Baileys Irish Cream on ice (while decorating the tree)

  • Posted by Trish on December 22, 2011 :

The season always starts for me in the first week of November with gingerbread lattes in the “red cups” from Starbucks.

But for Christmas Eve our family loves a rum and eggnog (or 10). We’ll start off with those in the afternoon and usually end up with some red wine and then onto the port until the wee hours playing board games and laughin the night away.

Christmas morning starts with a caesar because it’s the best way to get over the night before!

2 days until the festivities start!!!

good old rum and eggnog for me and Bailey in my coffee (well … maybe not every day of Xmas Holiday but ….you know…)

  • Posted by Bree on December 22, 2011 :

Orange sherbet floats is our family tradition for stocking opening on Christmas Day. My grandparents started it and now we share the tradition with our kids. Orange juice and orange sherbet. Simple and tasty.

  • Posted by Vicki on December 22, 2011 :

Nothing says the holidays like a Starbucks salted caramel hot chocolate!

  • Posted by Susan on December 22, 2011 :

Alcohol wise I don’t tend to drink anything different (except maybe Winter Ale beer) but the one beverage that always signifies the holidays for me would have to be Eggnog Lattes – I can’t get enough of them! And the funny thing is, I’m not even normally a big fan of eggnog!

  • Posted by Lisa C on December 22, 2011 :

I don’t drink a lot of alcohol, so my drink would have to be gingerale. It was a way for us kids to feel like we were having a special drink, and I’ve done that for mine as well. Now they prefer the pink gingerale, but it’s still a tradition!
